What’s said on the campaign trail, you know, those folks don’t have a lot of responsibilities. They’re not commander in chief. And when I see the casualness with which some of these folks talk about war I’m reminded of the costs involved in war. I’m reminded that the decision that I have to make in terms of sending our young men and women into battle and the impact that has on their lives, the impact it has on our national security, the impact it has on our economy. This is not a game. There’s nothing casual about it.

The GOP’s definition of a failed presidency:
- Killed Osama Bin Laden
- Saved the American auto industry
- Had 16-straight months of economic growth
- Ended the Iraq war & started brining troops home from Afghanistan
- Repealed Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell
- Passed Affordable Healthcare Act
- Passed Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act for women
- Began regulating Wall St.
- Appointed 2 women, one of which is Latino, to the Supreme Court
- Passed Student loan reform
- Helped overthrow Gadaffi without a single US soldier dying
- Cut taxes for 95% of working families
But yeah, what a failure. Too bad we can’t bring back Bush… *sarcasm*
They’re only setting up an impossible standard for success for them…
The disturbing part is that liberals/progressives fall into this whole what-have-you-done-for-me-lately thing too. Like, yes, I realise he’s not the ideal, but the country isn’t even going to get back to normal in four years, and we all know it never was going to.
But… but… he still hasn’t closed a facility that has miles and miles of red tape and failed policies preventing its closing. Clearly he is a failure for not doing whatever he wants without caring about the consequences.

I’m wandering off my “film faces” theme to share two of my favorite images of the President. I so admire the intellect and tenacity of this man - he is so bright yet always projects a sweet, caring demeanor….especially love the look on the faces of his security detail -as they try to give him and Michelle a private moment…Originally thought this picture was taken election night in Chicago right before his victory speech but it says White House Photo and Michelle is dressed formally.

What Obama Has Done
Health Care Reform Begun - Though it had to be watered down, the discussion on health care reform has begun. Several key changes have already been made, particularly taking away the ability to discriminate based upon pre-existing conditions and insisting that a certain percentage of the premium paid be spent on actual coverage, and if that amount isn’t spent, then a rebate will be sent to the customer.
Foreign Policy - Ended the War in Iraq. Kept everything else running smoothly — killed Osama bin Laden, provided support in Egypt and Libya without getting us as tangled up as we were a decade ago in Iraq.
Economy - I think it’s pretty clear that the stimulus bill he helped pass helped some and I think the American Jobs Act is full of good ideas and would help as well. The economy exploded shortly before he took office. Ever since then, he has been effectively curtailing the problems he was handed.

DADT Repealed – On September 20, the discriminatory Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy, which excluded openly gay and lesbian Americans from serving their country in the military, officially ended. The official end of that policy followed a certification by military leaders and President Obama that ending the ban on LGBT Americans serving their country in the military would not jeopardize military readiness. Such certification requirement was established in legislation passed by the Democratic House and Senate in December 2010 that started the repeal process.
Challenging DOMA – In February 2011, the Obama Administration and Attorney General Eric Holder announced that they would no longer defend the “Defense Of Marriage Act” in court because they concluded that the Act is unconstitutional. In July, the Obama DOJ filed a brief supporting a federal court lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of DOMA, and earlier this month the DOJ sent one of its top civil rights attorneys to argue in federal district court against DOMA.
Supporting Repeal of DOMA – President Obama announced his support for the Respect for Marriage Act, which would repeal the indefensible DOMA. The Respect for Marriage Act has been introduced in the Senate by Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and in the House by Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY).
Promoting LGBT Rights Abroad – In December, the Obama Administration issued a memorandum announcing its intent to use foreign diplomacy, including foreign aid, to promote LGBT rights around the world. That announcement was accompanied by a speech in favor of LGBT riInghts given by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at United Nations Human Rights Council.
First Openly Gay Federal Judge – In July, the first openly gay federal judge, J. Paul Oetken, was confirmed by the US Senate by an 80-13 vote after being nominated by President Obama and recommended by Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY).
Hospital Visitation Rights – On January 17, Department of Health and Human Services regulations requiring any hospital that receives Medicare or Medicaid funding to guarantee equal visitation rights for LGBT patients went into effect. The rules were promulgated at the direction of President Obama, who had issued a Presidential Memorandum calling for equal visitation rights.
